Overview: As of August 2019, 39 states and the District of Columbia published educator equity gap data that are separate and distinct from what the state submitted in its Educator Equity Plan (2015) and ESSA State Plan (2017).

Additional Information: Educator equity gap data can be useful in identifying where low-income students and students of color are served by ineffective, inexperienced or out-of-field teachers.

For this collection, Education Commission of the States examined whether each state has publicly reported educator equity gap data that are separate and distinct from what the state reported in its Educator Equity Plan and ESSA State Plan. A state received a “No” entry if educator equity data could not be retrieved or if the data that are provided are the same as what was provided in the Educator Equity Plan or ESSA State Plan. This collection does not capture important variations in how states report the data, including which metrics are used (ineffective, inexperienced and/or out-of-field) and at which level states are reporting equity gaps (state, district or school).
